Lot 89: Antique Salt-Glazed Stoneware Drainage Interceptor Fitting
An antique architectural salvage fitting constructed from heavy-duty salt-glazed stoneware with a mottled dark brown finish. The component features a cylindrical base that transitions into a large, curved hooded baffle. This form is characteristic of Victorian and Edwardian intercepting traps or gulley hoods utilized in subterranean drainage and sewage systems. The exterior of the curved upper section features impressed block lettering reading DO NOT USE AS FLUE, which served as a standard safety warning to ensure these ceramic drainage components were not incorrectly installed as chimney pots. While the silhouette is reminiscent of a glazed concrete chimney cowl, the material composition and inscribed warning confirm its specialized function for water management. The item bears an orange lot sticker numbered 7290.
