Lot 927: An Edwardian Sheraton Revival Inlaid Mahogany Serpentine Display Cabinet
This Edwardian mahogany display cabinet is designed in the Sheraton Revival style and dates to the early 20th century. The cabinet is of single-piece construction and features a serpentine-shaped front with a pair of astragal glazed doors. The glazing bars are arranged in an elegant arched or lancet-shaped pattern. The mahogany exterior is decorated with boxwood or satinwood stringing inlay along the door frames and the central rail. The cabinet is raised on an integral stand base supported by six square tapered legs terminating in spade feet. The interior is lined with a patterned cream-coloured fabric and contains three fixed wooden shelves. The hardware includes a brass escutcheon and a mortise lock. Stamped marks are present on the brass lock plate on the door edge, though they are not clearly legible; a circular stamp containing a crown is visible on the left, and a rectangular stamp containing two lines of text is on the right, with the word LEVER possibly appearing on the top line. The original key is present and attached by a string.
