Lot 430: A Collection of Global Souvenirs including African Carved Figures and Decorative Wares
A collection of mid-to-late 20th-century decorative objects and travel souvenirs. The group includes a pair of hand-carved wooden figures in the East African style, resembling work produced by the Kamba or Maasai people. These figures feature elongated proportions, with the male figure holding a staff and the female figure adorned with a polychrome bead necklace. Both are constructed from a dark-stained hardwood with carved details representing traditional dress. Also included is a 20th-century souvenir pottery vessel produced in the ancient Greek black-figure style, featuring a terracotta-coloured ground, a high-looped handle, and a central panel depicting a warrior. The collection further contains a decorative painted metal rosewater sprinkler, likely of Indian or Middle Eastern origin, featuring floral motifs in red, green, and gold-tone pigments with twin curved spouts. Several hand-carved wooden interlocking tripod stands, often called cobra stands, are present, alongside a vernacular carved wooden figure of an elephant. The elephant figure bears a small white adhesive price tag marked with £1.00.
