Lot 607: A Collection of Assorted Studio Pottery Inc Hawkshead, Canterbury and Dolwyddelan Pottery
A collection of assorted studio pottery vessels, primarily stoneware and earthenware, featuring a variety of wheel-thrown forms and decorative glazing techniques. The group includes a substantial tankard with a wide strap handle and pale glaze featuring incised linear and geometric decoration; an open stoneware bowl with a dark brown matte-glazed exterior and a contrasting pale, speckled interior glaze; and a wide-rimmed vessel with a cream-coloured upper section and a lower section decorated with incised chevron patterns in a grey-blue glaze. Other items comprise a globular vase with mottled brown and tan glazes; a small vase with horizontal ribbing and a pale blue-grey glaze; a small jar with an applied sprigged leaf motif; a candlestick holder with a flared, scalloped rim and blue-grey glaze; a pitcher with green and brown dripped glazes; a small flared-rim vase; and two miniature rounded pots with hand-painted abstract brown brushwork. No maker’s marks or signatures are visible on the exterior or interior surfaces of the pieces. The collection is in the style of 20th-century studio pottery.
