Lot 657: A Pair of Atlas Editions 1:76 Scale Die-cast Model Commercial Vehicles
A lot comprising two glass Galileo thermometers of varying forms. The first is a tall vertical glass cylinder on a flared circular base, containing five multi-coloured glass floats in shades of green, red, yellow, black, and teal, each with suspended metal temperature tags. This thermometer bears a manufacturer’s label to the base for Thüringer Glaskunst, a glassworks situated in the Thuringia region of Germany. The second item is a novelty thermometer fashioned in the shape of an incandescent lightbulb, supported by a circular polished metal wire stand. It contains five multi-coloured glass floats including red, blue, amber, and black examples, each with a metal temperature tag attached. These instruments operate on the principle of buoyancy, with the internal spheres rising and falling in response to changes in ambient temperature as the density of the clear liquid shifts. Visible tags include markings for 18 and 24 degrees.
