Lot 659: An Assortment of Cut Glass and Crystal including a Trumpet Vase, possibly Stuart Crystal, and a Christ Church Oxford Commemorative Chalice
An American late Victorian mantel clock, often referred to as a Gingerbread or Kitchen clock. The wooden case features elaborate carved and pressed detailing, including an architectural pediment and turned side pilasters. The circular dial is made of pressed brass with ornate scrolling and a central sunburst motif, housing Arabic numerals within circular cartouches. It is fitted with two black hands and two winding apertures. The rear of the clock opens to reveal a mechanical movement. The brass plate is stamped with ANSONIA CLOCK CO. NEW YORK U.S.A. and a patent date of JUNE 14 81. This is an eight-day, spring-driven movement with a time and strike mechanism that sounds on a coiled wire gong. The lot is accompanied by a separate pendulum bob and a winding key.
