This vintage manual coffee mill is manufactured by Elma and is constructed from heavy cast iron. The unit features a red-painted body with the manufacturer name ELMA embossed in capital letters on the front of the base. It is mounted on a rectangular wooden plinth with bevelled edges. The grinding mechanism is powered by a large, black-finished cast iron flywheel fitted with a turned wooden handle. The design includes a top-loading circular hopper and a side-mounted brass-toned adjustment screw for regulating the fineness of the grind. This style of side-wheel mill was a common fixture in mid-20th century European kitchens and small grocers.
