Lot 762: An Assortment of Vintage Lead and Die-cast Metal Toy Soldiers from Britains Ltd
A large Japanese porcelain bowl of deep circular form, decorated in the Imari palette with underglaze blue, overglaze iron-red enamels, and extensive gilt highlights. The interior surface is divided into multiple asymmetrical cartouches of varying shapes. These panels contain a landscape scene featuring a pavilion by a river, figures positioned beneath a gnarled pine tree in a mountainous setting, and a prominent rectangular panel depicting a cat or shishi lion-dog beneath flowering morning glory vines. Smaller circular medallions featuring floral and geometric fretwork are interspersed throughout. The surrounding ground is filled with dense red and gold karakusa scrolling vine patterns. The interior rim is finished with an underglaze blue geometric key-fret border. The exterior of the bowl features a vibrant cobalt blue ground decorated with white foliate scrollwork and four large stylized chrysanthemum blossoms rendered in pale green, brown, and gold enamels. The recessed base is finished with a square red overglaze seal mark containing the character Fuku, representing good fortune or happiness.
