Lot 881: A Vintage W & T Avery White Enamel Retail Computing Fan Scale
This lot comprises two vintage boater-style hats, likely dating from the mid-20th century. The first is a classic natural-coloured straw boater, constructed from spirally-sewn straw braid with a flat crown and a stiffened circular brim. It is adorned with a navy and white striped grosgrain ribbon band featuring a flat side bow. The second hat is a navy-dyed straw boater of similar construction, featuring a wide cream-coloured grosgrain ribbon band with a side bow. Both hats are made using traditional stiffening techniques associated with British summer formal wear or mid-century school uniform attire. No internal maker’s labels or size marks are visible. The hats are housed in a worn green cardboard storage box.
