Lot 997: A Large Vintage Woven Wicker Storage Basket with Hinged Lid
A mid-to-late Victorian mahogany bow-front chest of drawers of traditional English design. The piece features a two-over-three drawer configuration, with two short drawers above three full-width graduated drawers. The drawer fronts are finished with matched flame mahogany veneers, displaying a prominent figured grain. Decorative spiral-twist pilasters flank the drawers at the front corners. The chest is fitted with turned mahogany knobs and central keyholes with simple inset escutcheons. Secondary woods used for the drawer linings appear to be a light-coloured softwood, likely pine. The chest is supported on turned bun feet at the front. No maker’s marks or labels are visible.
