Lot 1087: An Assortment of British Advertising and Royal Commemorative Tins with a Glass Decanter
This armchair is designed in the late 17th-century Restoration or Carolean revival style, dating from the late 19th or early 20th century. The frame is constructed from oak with a medium-brown stained finish. It features a tall, rectangular back upholstered in a sage green velvet, and a seat finished in a floral needlepoint-style tapestry fabric. The upholstery is secured with brass-headed decorative tacks. The open arms are embellished with elaborate leaf-carved details and terminate in scroll-form handrests with carved rosettes. The chair is supported on turned and block legs joined by an H-form stretcher, with a prominent, deeply carved and pierced front stretcher featuring foliate scrolls. The front legs terminate in carved Spanish scroll feet. A contemporary auction label for HCP Auctions South West, Lot 1090, is adhered to the right arm.
