Lot 1162: Pam Carter, Beach at Harris, limited edition print
An early 19th-century English longcase clock constructed from mahogany with flame veneers and boxwood stringing. The hood features a broken arch pediment over a glazed door, flanked by decorative barley twist columns with gilt-finished capitals and bases. The trunk includes a short rectangular door with inlaid borders, similarly flanked by barley twist columns, resting on a box-form plinth base with cross-banded decoration. The arched, painted metal dial features Roman hour numerals, an outer Arabic minute track, a subsidiary seconds dial below the twelve o’clock position, and a date aperture above the six o’clock position. The arch houses a rolling moon phase mechanism set against a painted landscape, and the spandrels are decorated with painted floral bouquets. An illegible maker’s name, appearing to begin with George, is inscribed in script on the dial. The clock contains a mechanical twin-train movement, likely of 8-day duration, with two winding holes indicating a striking mechanism.
