Lot 1170: Burley and Others, A Group of Four Framed Artworks including 'Street Scene' and 'River Landscape' (Signed)
A Japanese Oshie (padded fabric collage) artwork, 20th Century. The work depicts a traditional Hagoita (ceremonial paddle) and Hane (shuttlecock) in raised relief. The paddle is decorated with an Oshie portrait of a figure in traditional Kabuki-style dress and headgear, rendered in layered, padded silk fabrics. The composition is set against a vibrant orange-red woven fabric ground and housed in a dark-stained wooden frame under glass. To the lower-left of the paddle, there is a small, square mark containing characters; however, these are too small and indistinct to be clearly identified.
