Lot 26: A Victorian silver and enamel coin brooch by Samuel Lyon and Co, featuring an 1819 George III silver crown
A silver brooch featuring a George III silver crown coin dated 1819. The reverse of the coin is decorated with a multi-colour enamelled depiction of St. George and the Dragon after Benedetto Pistrucci. This central scene is encircled by a dark blue enamel garter bearing the motto HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE. The coin is secured within a silver frame mount embellished with sixteen small spherical pellets around the circumference. The reverse of the brooch displays the obverse of the coin, showing the laureate head of King George III and the inscription GEORGIUS III D: G: BRITANNIARUM REX F: D: 1819. The silver mounting is struck with the maker mark S L and Co for Samuel Lyon and Co, alongside London assay marks for sterling silver and the date letter q for 1891. The piece is fitted with a hinged T-bar pin and C-clasp.
