Lot 30: A Set of Six Victorian Sterling Silver Handled Hors d'oeuvre Forks by William Page London 1851
A set of six Victorian silver forks, featuring ornate handles of 900 silver fineness or greater as indicated by the visible British hallmarks. Each fork is designed with a two-tined bident head, likely constructed of a silver-toned base metal or plate, joined to a weighted handle. The handles are decorated in the Rococo-revival style, displaying embossed scrolling foliate and shell motifs with a shaped lobed terminal. The hallmarks on the handles are for London, 1851, and include the maker’s mark WP for the London silversmith and cutler William Page. The full mark set consists of the maker’s mark, the lion passant for sterling silver, the leopard’s head for the London assay office, the lowercase Gothic date letter q for 1851, and the profile duty mark of Queen Victoria.
