Lot 61: A Victorian Cast Iron Relief Plaque Depicting Christ and the Woman of Samaria at the Well - "Jesus saith unto her give me to drink" scene
A cast iron relief plaque, possibly intended as a decorative wall hanging or part of a fireback assembly, depicting the biblical scene of Christ and the Woman of Samaria at the Well. The composition features two figures in classical drapery positioned around a central stone well. On the right, a seated male figure gestures towards a female figure on the left who is holding a large pitcher. A stylized tree is cast into the background on the left side. The plaque is produced using the sand-casting method, with the reverse showing the recessed inverse of the front design and horizontal ridges in the bottom corner. A single hole has been drilled through the left-hand margin for mounting purposes. No maker’s marks or signatures are present.
