Lot 87: Melba Ware Glazed Ceramic Roaring Lion Figurine
A naturalistically modelled ceramic figurine of a roaring male lion, produced by the English pottery firm Melba Ware (H.A. Wain and Sons Ltd). The lion is depicted in a dynamic, roaring pose with an open mouth, detailed facial features including painted whisker spots, and a heavy, textured mane. The piece is finished in a high-gloss glaze with a variegated palette of brown, tan, and cream tones used to accentuate the musculature. The underside of the belly bears a backstamp in black ink featuring the Melba Ware script mark and the words MADE IN ENGLAND.
