Lot 103: A Trio of Framed Vintage Butterfly Specimens
A trio of vintage taxidermy butterfly specimens presented in a rectangular, dark-stained wooden shadow box frame with a glass front. The collection comprises three distinct species pinned against a light-coloured background. The leftmost specimen is identified by a reverse label as Graphium hylas, although physical characteristics align with Graphium agamemnon (Tailed Jay), featuring dark brown wings with numerous pale green spots. The central specimen is an Ixias pyrene (Yellow Orange Tip), displaying yellow wings with distinct orange tips on the forewings. The rightmost specimen is a Papilio polytes (Common Mormon), specifically a female form, showing dark brown wings with a row of orange-red spots along the hindwing margins. The reverse of the display features a cardboard backing with three small, handwritten paper labels positioned behind each corresponding specimen. The frame is constructed with mitered corners and is fitted with two metal D-ring hangers and a white hanging cord.
