Lot 124: British Royal Navy Issue Boatswain Call with Broad Arrow Mark
A British Royal Navy pattern boatswain call, also known as a bosun pipe. The piece is constructed from a silver-toned base metal, likely nickel silver or silver-plated brass, which exhibits characteristic surface oxidation and a slight yellowish hue in areas of wear. The design features a curved tube termed the gun, terminating in a spherical sound chamber known as the buoy. These elements are joined by a flat keel which features an integral lanyard ring. A clear British broad arrow or pheon is stamped into the side of the buoy, identifying the item as official British government property. This pattern was standard issue throughout the 20th century.
Total length: 11.5 cm.
