Lot 143: Victorian Style Silver Plated Scissor Action Candle Wick Trimmer
A pair of ornate Victorian style candle wick trimmers, also known as snuffer scissors, crafted from silver plated white metal. The implement features a scissor-action design with circular finger and thumb loops. The loops and shanks are decorated with scrolled openwork and circular floral bosses. One blade incorporates a rectangular collection box, while the corresponding blade features a flat pressing plate, both of which are heavily decorated with repoussé and chased foliate and floral motifs. This mechanism is designed to extinguish and retain charred wick material. The underside is fitted with three small spherical peg feet, allowing the tool to rest elevated on a flat surface. The blade terminates in a pointed tip used for wick adjustment. A small, rectangular stamped mark is present on the underside of the flat blade near the pivot, though the characters within are illegible and do not correspond to standard British sterling hallmarks.
