Lot 158: A Collection of Vintage Costume Brooches Including a Scottish Mizpah Grouse Claw Brooch
A collection of vintage costume jewellery brooches of various designs, including traditional Scottish revival, Victorian revival, and mid-century floral styles.
The collection includes a traditional Scottish taxidermy grouse claw brooch by Mizpah. The silver-tone metal band wrapping the claw is stamped with the maker’s mark MIZPAH and an arrow piercing two hearts. The brooch is set with an oval faceted amber-coloured paste stone claw-set in a decorative mount, with real feathers and claw intact. It is fitted with a pin and C-clasp mechanism.
Also in the collection is a cast brass openwork rectangular panel brooch of Victorian revival design, featuring symmetrical scrolling foliage, C-scrolls, and two central sunflower motifs. It is fitted with a pin and safety clasp mechanism.
Another brooch is a gold-tone filigree cluster brooch set with a central oval faux-turquoise cabochon displaying a brown matrix, surrounded by two concentric tiers of smaller claw-set turquoise-coloured glass beads. It is fitted with a pin and safety clasp mechanism.
The collection also features a bright gold-tone floral spray brooch designed as two stylized tulip heads, with the petals and curved stem pavé-set with small round clear rhinestones, accented with a single white faux pearl. It is fitted with a pin and safety clasp mechanism.
Additionally, there is a circular domed brooch featuring concentric rings of white half-pearl simulated beads and iridescent Aurora Borealis rhinestones, enclosed by a textured gold-tone leaf-motif border. It is fitted with a pin and safety clasp mechanism.
Completing the collection is a stylized branch brooch resembling a berry cluster, crafted in darkened copper-tone metal with a textured bark-like finish and set with semi-translucent opalescent pink glass beads representing berries. It is fitted with a pin and safety clasp mechanism.
