Lot 173: A Pair of Antique Hallmarked Sterling Silver Thimbles
A pair of antique sterling silver thimbles featuring traditional machine-turned honeycomb patterns across the crowns and bodies. The first thimble is struck with hallmarks for the maker Charles Horner, assayed in Birmingham in 1911. The marks include the maker’s initials CH in a rectangular cartouche, the lion passant for sterling silver, the anchor town mark for Birmingham, and the lowercase date letter m. The second thimble features a similar engine-turned honeycomb design with marks on the rim that are heavily worn and partially illegible, though characters resembling CS or JS are visible. Both items are finished with plain, slightly flared rims.
