Lot 86: Large Carved and Gilded Wooden Maritime Nameboard North Sea 1988
A large and substantial wooden sign, likely constructed from a weathered hardwood such as teak, intended for maritime or exterior display. The board features decorative scroll-cut terminals at both ends and contains deeply incised, V-cut lettering and numerals. The inscription, which has been finished with gilding, reads 19 NORTH SEA 88. The wood exhibits a silver-grey patina consistent with natural weathering and exposure to the elements. The surface shows a prominent grain texture and several pre-drilled holes are present for mounting purposes. This piece is characteristic of a ship’s nameboard or a commemorative sign for a nautical themed establishment.
