Lot 211: A Pair of British Military Steel Transit Chests, Dated 1943
A pair of heavy-duty rectangular steel storage boxes, identified as British military transit chests from the Second World War period. Each chest is constructed from heavy-gauge steel and features a top-opening hinged lid. The lids are secured by two heavy-pattern metal latches on the front face, and the boxes are equipped with side-mounted carry handles. The interior of the chests contains internal metal guide rails and remnants of yellowed protective padding, which indicates they were designed for the transit of sensitive military equipment, such as radio components or optical instruments. One chest features incised markings on the side reading 943 FSD. The numeric code 943 denotes a production date of September 1943, and the FSD abbreviation typically refers to a Field Supply Depot or Forward Supply Depot, consistent with British Army logistical equipment of the era. The interiors retain remnants of a black painted finish.
