Lot 239: Two Vintage British Two-Gallon Petrol Cans
This lot comprises two vintage automotive fluid cans, constructed from sheet metal and designed to the standard British two-gallon capacity. One can features a distressed green and red painted finish and is embossed on the top surface with the mandatory period safety warnings Petroleum Spirit and Highly Inflammable. It is fitted with a fixed metal strap handle but is missing its closure cap. The second can displays a heavy, uniform rusted patina across all surfaces and is equipped with a central metal handle and a knurled brass screw-top cap. These cans are characteristic of the utility containers used for fuel storage and transport in the United Kingdom during the early to mid-20th century. A small white inventory label is attached to the handle of the rusted can.
Approximately 28 cm x 15 cm x 24 cm.
