Lot 594: A Collection of Five Hand-Painted Indian Papier-Mache and Wooden Elephant Figurines
A collection of five decorative elephant figurines of graduated sizes, each featuring traditional hand-painted ornamentation. The group includes a large figure with a dense blue floral pattern and a red saddle panel, standing on an associated rectangular wooden plinth with a floral border. Other figures include a medium-sized elephant with a black body and orange head detailed with circular motifs and white tusks, and a black elephant with a multi-coloured saddle. Two smaller figures are included, one with a red ground decorated with green leafy vines, and the other with a turquoise ground featuring pink floral motifs. The items are constructed from papier-mache and wood, finished with a lacquered surface characteristic of Kashmiri and Rajasthani folk art production. There are no maker’s marks or signatures visible on the figurines.
