Lot 628: Fifteen-Tube Andean Style Bamboo Pan Flute
An Andean style fifteen-tube pan flute, also known as panpipes, constructed from graduated lengths of natural bamboo. The instrument follows the traditional Sicu or Antara design, with the tubes secured between two horizontal wooden support slats and bound with pink and white cord. Decorative features include four small yarn pom-poms in red, yellow, light green, and dark green, as well as a multi-coloured braided textile hanging cord. Each tube is individually marked at the mouthpiece end with hand-applied musical notes in Western notation. The sequence of notes, spanning from the longest to shortest tube, is C, B, A, G, F, E, D, C, B, A, G, F, E, D, C, indicating a two-octave range in the key of C Major.
