Lot 827: Late 19th or Early 20th Century Mahogany Blanket Chest
A late 19th or early 20th-century mahogany blanket chest of rectangular form. This utilitarian storage piece is constructed from mahogany, characterised by a straight ribbon grain visible on the interior and a reddish-brown exterior tone. The chest is built using traditional exposed dovetail joints at the corners. The interior remains in an unfinished state, showcasing the natural grain of the primary timber. The chest is fitted with a flat hinged lid, internal brass hinges, and an inset brass lock mechanism to the front edge. No key is present, and no external carrying handles are visible on this example. The exterior bears modern temporary auction markings, including two large red characters resembling the letter X and a small white adhesive label numbered 827.
