Lot 832: Mid-century Air Ministry oak chest of drawers
A mid-20th century chest of drawers in the utilitarian style, attributed to the Air Ministry. The piece is configured with two short drawers over two long drawers. It is constructed with oak veneered surfaces in a light honey-toned finish, while the secondary internal timber for the drawer sides and bases appears to be a lighter softwood such as pine. The drawers are fitted on internal wooden runners and feature their original circular turned wooden pull knobs. The chest is supported by short, integrated square-section feet. This design is characteristic of British post-war government-issue furniture produced during the 1940s and 1950s.
