Lot 849: Mid-20th Century Oak Court Cupboard in the Tudor Revival Style
An oak court cupboard or dresser in the Tudor Revival style, constructed from solid oak and oak veneers with a dark-stained finish. The recessed upper section features open shelving arranged into three vertical compartments, topped with a carved frieze of blind arcading and supported by turned baluster columns at the front corners. The sideboard base comprises a rectangular top over three frieze drawers, each decorated with carved scrolling motifs centred around a turned wooden knob. Below the drawers is a two-door cupboard; the door panels are carved with blind arcading at the top over vertical reeded panels in an imitation linenfold style. The unit is fitted with decorative blackened metal butterfly hinges and corner brackets, and it stands on shaped bracket feet. This piece is characteristic of mid-to-late 20th-century British revival furniture, such as those produced by Wood Bros or Jaycee Furniture. No maker’s marks, labels, or stamps are visible in the provided images.
