Lot 20: A Mid-20th Century Butzweilerhof Motor Club Commemorative Award Plaque Dated 1958-1959
A commemorative wooden award plaque featuring eight engraved brass-tone metal plates and three cast metal decorative elements relating to motor rallying events held by the Butzweilerhof Motor Club between 1958 and 1959. The rectangular dark-stained wood base holds eight individual plates with the following inscriptions: Butzweilerhof Motor Club Rally ..Oktober Fest 1958 Second; Butz March Hare Second 1958; Butz March Hare Best Club Member 1958; Butzweilerhof Motor Club Autumn Leaves Rally Third (Navigator) 27th September 1959; Butzweilerhof Motor Club Autumn Leaves Rally Third (Driver) 27th September 1959; Butzweilerhof Motor Club ..St. Andrews Rally 1958 Team Winner (Navigator); Butzweilerhof Motor Club ..St. Andrews Rally 1958 Team Winner (Driver); and Butzweilerhof Motor Club Rally ..Much Ado About Nothing 1958 Winner. The plaque is further decorated with a central circular relief medallion depicting a 1950s-style sports car in a landscape scene and two cast metal oak leaf sprays at the base. The Butzweilerhof Motor Club was associated with the former Butzweilerhof Airport in Cologne, Germany, which served as a Royal Air Force station (RAF Butzweilerhof) following the Second World War. These awards likely relate to a British service member stationed in Germany participating as both a driver and navigator. The reverse is fitted with three metal wall-hanging brackets.
