Lot 110: A Pierced Brass Hanging Incense Burner or Lantern in the Islamic Style
A handcrafted hanging vessel of ovoid form with tapering conical ends, likely intended as an incense burner or lantern. The piece is constructed from multiple joined sections of brass. The exterior is decorated throughout with hand-pierced and chased ornamentation consisting of repeating foliate and floral motifs, including stylised flower clusters and scrolling vine patterns. The borders of these perforated sections feature linear hatched engravings. A simple brass hanging hook is fitted to one of the conical terminals. No maker’s marks or stamps are visible on the exterior surfaces.
