Lot 233: A Collection of Garden Statuary and a Large Ribbed Decorative Ceramic Vase
A collection of decorative garden and home items, including garden statuary and a large ceramic vase. The lot features a cast stone garden statue of a young boy in rustic attire and a flat cap, carrying a basket of grapes. The piece is finished with a light-coloured wash and is designed in the style of early 20th-century French garden ornaments. Included in the collection are cast stone garden grotesques, one shown in a squatting pose with a wide-mouthed grin and the other as a pensive character resting its head on its arms. Also present is a large ovoid ceramic floor vase with a narrow neck and flared rim, featuring a continuous deep horizontal ribbed texture and a buff-coloured glaze. The boy statue is marked with a handwritten tag S 760, and the ceramic vase bears an auction lot sticker for Lot 233 and a tag marked S 766.
