Lot 435: A Pair of Italian Style Ceramic Fruit Centrepieces
A pair of decorative ceramic fruit displays in the majolica style, likely of Italian manufacture. The first piece consists of five moulded earthenware oranges with textured skins and a bright orange-yellow glaze, decorated with applied green leaves and a white blossom. These are presented in a white-glazed oval bowl featuring a reticulated basket-weave or lattice-work design. The second piece comprises three moulded earthenware lemons with a textured yellow glaze and pointed ends, accompanied by applied green leaves and a small white flower in a shallow, round white-glazed dish. Both items feature hand-applied decorative elements and are finished in vibrant glazes typical of the mid-to-late 20th century. No maker’s marks or factory stamps are visible on the base of either piece.
