Lot 441: A British Second World War MKII Civil Defence Steel Helmet with Rescue Party Gas Markings
A British Second World War MKII steel helmet, commonly referred to as the Brodie pattern, utilised by civilian emergency services. The steel shell retains the standard top-fixing screw for the internal suspension. The exterior side of the helmet displays hand-painted characters RP/G in a cream-coloured paint. This marking signifies the Rescue Party / Gas branch of the British Civil Defence, indicating personnel trained for rescue work in contaminated environments. The interior contains a partial MKII liner system consisting of treated fabric and rubber buffers. A section of the original sprung-webbing chinstrap is present, secured by the internal metal lugs.
