Lot 582: A Minton Chinese Marine Pattern Blue and White Transfer-Printed Platter
A large oval earthenware platter featuring a moulded scalloped rim with a gadrooned edge. The central well is decorated with a blue transfer-printed Chinoiserie landscape in the Chinese Marine pattern, depicting a river scene with a prominent pagoda, a bridge with figures, and various buildings set amidst palm-like trees and rocky outcrops. The wide border consists of alternating floral sprays and scrolled foliate motifs. The underside bears a blue printed backstamp featuring a decorative scrolled cartouche surmounted by a bird. The mark includes the cursive letters Chinese Marine above the block letters OPAL CHINA. There are impressed marks consisting of the letters CW positioned above the number 11.
