Lot 619: Two pieces of 19th-century blue and white transfer-printed earthenware
Two pieces of earthenware featuring blue transfer-printed decoration. The octagonal plate depicts a central pastoral scene of a couple in period dress seated on a wooden bench in a garden or parkland setting, with a small dog at their feet. This central vignette is enclosed by an inner geometric band and a wide border of elaborate scrolling foliate and floral motifs. The second item is a deep bowl or saucer decorated with a dense, all-over floral pattern, including roses, within heavy scrolling borders. These pieces are characteristic of 19th-century British Staffordshire production. No maker marks are visible to the upper surfaces.
