Lot 756: A Set Of Four Charles Dudouyt Oak and Rush Dining Chairs
Four mid-century French dining side chairs designed by Charles Dudouyt, dating to the circa 1940s. Each chair is constructed from solid oak with a dark-stained finish. The backrests feature a shaped top rail over a central vertical splat, which is ornamented with a deeply carved circular roundel of concentric rings, a signature motif of Dudouyt’s work. The square seats are inset with traditional woven rush in a four-way diagonal pattern. The frames are built with visible mortise and tenon joinery. The front legs are turned with ring and vase motifs, terminating in block feet and joined by a front stretcher. The rear legs are of plain square section, connected to the front by side and rear stretchers. Small white rectangular auction lot stickers marked 756 are present on the upper backrails.
