Lot 787: A Set of Antique Cast Iron and Brass Balance Scales with Weights
An antique set of balance beam kitchen scales featuring a black painted cast iron frame and base. The instrument comprises two pans: one circular flat brass pan and one deep scoop brass pan. The front of the cast iron base is embossed with the text TO WEIGH on the left side and 2LB on the right side. The balance mechanism is supported by a central pivot with a decorative cast finial. The scales are accompanied by an assortment of four circular cast iron disc weights of graduating sizes, the smallest of which is marked 2oz. Modern auction labels are adhered to the interior of the larger scoop pan.
