Lot 901: A Mid-20th Century Chinese Carved Camphor Wood Bureau
A mid-20th century carved hardwood fall-front bureau of East Asian origin. The exterior features elaborate relief carvings in the Chinoiserie style, depicting a landscape scene with a multi-tiered pagoda, an arched bridge, and figures amongst stylised trees and foliage. The fall front opens to reveal a fitted interior containing four vertical pigeonholes and a small central drawer with a recessed finger pull. The bureau is supported on four legs terminating in claw-and-ball feet. The piece is constructed from a hardwood consistent with camphor wood. The fall front includes a circular recessed pull and a centred keyed lock mechanism.
