Lot 902: A Group of Mid-Century Southeast Asian Carved and Inlaid Hardwood Furniture
A group of mid-20th-century Southeast Asian hardwood furniture decorated with Chinoiserie architectural motifs. The collection comprises a rectangular blanket chest, a long coffee table, and a pair of nesting tables. Each piece is constructed from a dark-stained hardwood, possibly teak or camphor wood, and features decorative panels executed in deep relief carving with contrasting light-coloured wood inlay. The scenes depict traditional pagodas, temples, and bridges within a landscape. The chest is fitted with a hinged lid, a brass lock plate, and side carrying handles, containing an internal sliding wooden tray. The coffee table features a rectangular top with glass inset over a carved scene, raised ends, and tapered legs ending in metal ferrules. The pair of nesting tables are of graduated sizes, one with a glass inset and one without, both set on tapered legs. One nesting table bears a small white adhesive label printed with the number 902.
