This oil on canvas landscape painting depicts a broad river valley scene with a distant chateau or castle nestled amongst trees. The composition features a stand of mature trees in the lower left foreground, balanced by reeds and tall grasses along the riverbank to the right, rendered in warm ochre and sienna tones. The upper half of the work is dominated by a dramatic sky featuring large, billowing clouds in shades of pale yellow and blue. The piece is executed in a Post-Impressionist style with visible, textured brushwork and a muted, atmospheric palette. The painting is signed J. Demeester vertically in the upper right corner. It is presented in a mid-20th-century ornate swept frame with a gilded finish, featuring scrolled foliate and shell motifs at the corners and centres. The frame bears labels for HCP Auctions South West, Lot 926, and a white sticker numbered 13.
