Lot 194: A Pair of Large Cast Stone Circular Garden Planters with Scrolling Foliate Decoration
A pair of substantial garden planters of circular form, constructed from cast stone. The exterior of each vessel is decorated in high relief with a repeating pattern of scrolling acanthus leaves and volutes. The planters feature thick, rounded rims and are supported by separate flared pedestal bases, which are similarly decorated with moulded scroll motifs to the foot. The interiors are unglazed and weathered, each containing a central drainage hole. One planter retains a paper auction lot label to the inner rim.
