Lot 664: A Collection of Five Cast Brass Horse Brasses
This lot comprises five cast brass horse brasses, traditional equestrian ornaments used for decorating heavy horse harnesses. The collection includes a Tally-Ho brass featuring a central motif of a huntsman on horseback jumping a fence, inscribed TALLY-HO at the base. A Jamaica Inn brass depicts a bust portrait of a man in a tricorn hat set within a horseshoe frame, inscribed JAMAICA INN below the figure. A circular brass with a scalloped edge features a central wheatsheaf motif overlaid with crossed agricultural implements, likely a scythe and a rake. Another scalloped circular brass depicts a seated figure, possibly a saint or monk, beside a small building or cell. The final brass shows a rearing horse within a scrolled circular frame. All pieces are of solid cast construction with integral suspension loops at the top.
