Lot 687: Chaucer, Geoffrey. A Collection of Works including The Canterbury Tales. The Folio Society.
A collection of multiple volumes by Geoffrey Chaucer published by The Folio Society. This group features a two-volume set of The Canterbury Tales, bound in quarter dark-brown leather over light-brown cloth boards with gilt-stamped titles and numbering to the spines. Also included are two separate volumes: another edition of The Canterbury Tales and Troilus and Criseyde. These latter volumes are bound in decorative cloth; one features a wide yellow band with a repeating foliate pattern across the boards, and both exhibit gold-stamped iconographic motifs on the spines including a scallop shell, a crown, and floral designs. A single cardboard slipcase is present. These editions typically feature historically inspired typography and woodcut-style illustrations characteristic of Folio Society productions from the mid-to-late 20th century.
