Lot 856: A Victorian Walnut and Marble Top Tiled Washstand
A late Victorian walnut washstand featuring a heavily veined reddish-brown and grey marble top. The unit is surmounted by a tall, ornate upstand with a central carved shield and foliate scroll cresting. The splashback is inset with two rows of alternating tiles comprising Art Nouveau tubelined floral tiles depicting Calla lilies and plain deep maroon glazed tiles. The base section contains a two-door cupboard with panelled door fronts and original cast metal drop handles. The timber surfaces appear to have been previously stripped, resulting in a dry and unpolished finish. The construction features traditional joinery consistent with the late 19th century. No maker’s marks are visible.
