Lot 961: A WWII British Air Ministry Dated 1941 Military Storage Chest
A WWII-era British military storage chest produced for the Air Ministry. This utilitarian piece is constructed from softwood planks, featuring a lid reinforced with a transverse wooden cleat and secured by two heavy iron hinges. The exterior is finished in a weathered dark paint or stain, with a single vertical red stripe applied to the front face. The chest’s structural integrity is enhanced by metal strap reinforcements at the corners. An iron loop hasp is mounted to the front for a padlock. The interior reveals the natural grain of the softwood construction. The underside of the lid features black stencilled markings including the British government Broad Arrow symbol, the letters A.M. for the Air Ministry, and the date 1941. An auction lot label 961 is adhered to the lid exterior.
