Lot 980: A Collection of Novelty and Character Ceramics including a Ringtons Tea Promotional Teapot
An assortment of novelty and character teapots, lids, and decorative ceramic items contained within two boxes. The lot features a wide variety of thematic forms including architectural designs such as a Nineteenth Hole golf clubhouse teapot, several thatched cottage teapots, and a large grey-roofed house. Figural and animal-themed items include a cream and black horse-shaped teapot and a crinoline lady figure teapot. Still life designs are represented by a Garden Fresh Produce teapot modelled as a vegetable basket with high-relief cabbage, carrots, and grapes, alongside a large red fruit-shaped vessel. A notable commemorative piece is a Ringtons Tea promotional teapot modelled as a wooden crate with a lid decorated as a newspaper featuring transfer-printed text Ringtons Begin Deliveries. The collection also includes a large, heavily rusted cast-iron kettle or hearth ornament shaped as a teapot with a small floral ceramic cup attached. The ceramics are primarily glazed earthenware and stoneware, decorated using polychrome hand-painting, relief moulding, and transfer printing. Several pieces bear inscriptions including Nineteenth Hole and Garden Fresh Produce.
