Lot 834: A Mid-20th Century Stained Hardwood Spindle-Back Rocking Chair with Tapestry Cushions
A traditional spindle-back rocking chair constructed from stained hardwood. The chair features a high backrest with a wide, decoratively shaped crest rail above vertically aligned spindles. It includes down-swept, curved armrests supported by turned spindle uprights. The seat is mounted on a base comprising four turned legs joined by spindle stretchers, set upon curved wooden rockers. The chair is fitted with a two-part, tied-on upholstered cushion set in a tapestry-style fabric. The fabric displays a dense floral and foliate pattern in a palette of cream, green, brown, and pink. Two white adhesive inventory labels are present on the front of the crest rail, printed with the numbers 6719 and 834. No maker’s marks or stamps are visible.
