Lot 859: Mid-20th Century Mahogany Stained Telephone Seat with Carved Drawer
A mid-to-late 20th-century telephone seat, constructed from hardwood with a dark mahogany-toned finish. The piece features an integrated single seat and an adjacent side table. The seat is designed with a tall, shaped backrest featuring carved scrollwork at the top rail. The backrest is button-tufted in a diamond pattern with six buttons and upholstered in a cream-coloured fabric, which extends to the seat pad. The upholstery is finished with a matching decorative braid trim along the edges. The side table consists of a flat top surface above a single drawer. The drawer front is decorated with a deeply carved foliate and acanthus leaf pattern and is fitted with a single brass-toned pull knob. The armrest and all four legs are characterised by turned-wood detailing. No manufacturer’s marks or labels are visible.
